Google, LG Wipe Out Emoji Patents At PTAB - Law360

Law360 (March 10, 2021, 10:03 PM EST) -- The Patent Trial and appeal Board has invalidated the entire claims Google and LG challenged in a pair of patents that cover emojis used through smartphones, discovering that prior art rendered these claims obvious.

In two rulings issued Tuesday, a 3-judge PTAB panel referred to that Google LLC and LG Electronics Inc. efficiently made the case that a group of prior artwork references had already covered claims in two patents owned by means of Zipit wireless Inc., a company that won traction in the early 2000s for promoting fast messaging instruments, together with the "Zippy."
